Do you want to be more successful? I talk to people about this topic several times throughout the week. Did you know that people who keep a positive mindset are more successful than those who don’t? I have seen this proven over and over again in all aspects of my life, especially in my health journey. It’s so easy for us, as women and men, to compare and think we should be better. I’m far from perfect but filling my head and heart with positive truth is essential! Here are three things that you can implement to develop a positive mindset.
LONG TERM GOALS VS. SHORT TERM GOALS
Long term goals and short term goals are important for different reasons. Let's look at short term goals first. When we have short term goals in mind, they help us mark things off as we go. Short term goals encourage us to keep going when we hit milestones. We live in a culture and society where we want to see quick results. So it matters when we take time to make goals and acknowledge the things we are doing well along the way. Celebrating these short term accomplishments are just as important as celebrating the long term success we'll eventually see.
Long term goals are also very important. When we first start something, we are highly motivated and ready to get after it. When we set long term goals, it gives us something to attain in the future. The road to our long term goals isn't always easy. But when you give yourself something to shoot for while actively celebrating your short term success, that is quite empowering.
LEARN TO LOVE AND APPRECIATE YOUR BODY
Our bodies are incredible. Sometimes, I'm in awe of the way the Lord has created us. Each part of our body was created for a PURPOSE. We weren't just thrown together. It is quite the opposite. We were made with deep thought and love. We are all different shapes and sizes but we are ALL fearfully and wonderfully made! So, while you work towards being the best version of yourself, you should never lose sight of the gift the Lord has given you through your body.
PROGRESS over PERFECTION
We must plan for set backs because they will happen. This is where grace comes into play. We can realign our minds with short and long term goals. The thing I love about the start of a new day is just that: it's a clean slate. A time to hit refresh and get our mindset straight again. The all or nothing mindset is very demotivating. We want to motivate ourselves and build on our momentum. When we focus on the areas where we've improved rather than beat ourselves up over the areas where growth is still needed, we move towards that positivity mindset.
What specific area of progress in your life can you celebrate today? Take the time to truly recognize that movement. I believe you can change your life with the power of positive thinking. It's a daily choice that you can make. Slowly, over time, you'll form a habit. You will find yourself living life with more passion and purpose than ever before. When we change our mindset, we change our life!
