I want to share the eight letter word that changed my business.
As a business owner, it is important to learn how to delegate. You cannot do it all! You might need help in specific areas of your business and that’s okay.
WRITE CONTENT
For example, you might need a writer to create content for you. Plan ahead so they know what to write for the upcoming month.
- Get together for a planning session to discuss writing topics.
- Set deadlines for when you want your writing pieces due.
- Communicate with your writer if you want to change the order of your topics or replace them with new ideas.
EDIT CONTENT
In addition, you’ll want someone to edit your content. It is quite important that you clearly communicate to your audience. It’s a good day when you don’t have any spelling errors!
Your content is published in a myriad of ways – blog, social media, pdf downloads and more.
Hire someone to look over spelling mistakes, grammatical issues, and the overall flow of the writing content. Overall, you want your readers to get your message.
CREATE SPECIAL PROJECTS
Hire a person to work on the details of a big project: the photos, the content, and the videos.
If you want to publish a printable for your clients, break down all the steps required to complete your task.
- Taking photos or finding freely usable images online
- Crafting and writing the content
- Using a program to create the project
- Use a Google Doc to write the content
- Work in Canva to create the product
RUN YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA
When you let someone else handle your social media, you are making time for something else. Maybe you want to continue posting on Insta Stories (Instagram), but your assistant’s new role is to manage the Facebook page and regularly tweet on your Twitter account.
When you delegate different parts of your business, you free up time to work on certain areas where you are needed the most!
- List all your social media accounts
- Assign specific platforms to your assistant
- Create an editorial calendar
- Plan out the year for when you want to show certain digital content.
- Assign due dates for the digital content.
- For the platforms you’ve assigned to your assistant, make sure to comment on those specific platforms from time to time. Even though you’ve delegated this to your assistant, make sure that your voice is consistent throughout the platforms.
When you first start out, it makes sense to do the work on your own. You want to be mindful that your expenses are not exceeding your income. But at some point, as your business grows, invest in it by adding people to your team. You’ll gain time and energy back in your day. Avoid burn out by delegating tasks where you don’t have to be intricately involved.
