In a world of filters and other enhancements, loud voices and bold messaging, and flashy personalities and sparkling homes, it’s important to be your authentic self on Social Media. If you don’t like a certain picture, you can always edit it. If you aren’t happy with the video you took, you can delete and start over. But with a carefully curated social media presence, does your audience see the real YOU?
Perhaps you think your voice isn’t good enough. You didn’t come up with the inspirational quote or prepare the 7 slide, motivational talk on Insta Stories. Your online life seems boring when you compare it with the people you follow. It is so easy to get into the habit of trying to be like everyone else. When you copy someone else’s pictures, videos, or even their messaging, you aren’t allowing your followers to see YOU. Yes, be inspired by others but don't let the voice in your head tell you that you have to be just like them.
Did you know that your voice matters? Did you know that your perspective matters? Think about all the published books out in the world. Has there been an announcement stating that they have no room for new authors? No! New authors are celebrating their newly published books. In the same way, there is room for you. There is room for your unique voice and special personality. You are needed!
When you post, share your own life. Figure out first what you’re comfortable sharing. Perhaps, you’re a private person. That’s okay. You don’t have to share every facet of your life. But when you do share, make sure that it’s YOU.
People are waiting for you to show up exactly as you are. Know that we all have influence, including YOU. How are you going to use that influence in your online presence? I talk to people frequently who battle the voices in their head. They believe that no one cares what they have to say. Their perspective and voice is not valid or relevant. This simply is not true!
Please do not be anyone else but yourself! People connect with you because of WHO YOU ARE. You have a unique voice. Show up online as YOU. You never know who you are about to encourage with your words and insight.
