With all the sweets and parties it can be hard to find practical ways to focus on health during the holidays.
This may not be the first thing on your mind, and I get it. You’ve got lots of gifts to buy, presents to wrap, and festivities to attend. Don’t let that hold you back from focusing on your health.
While giving yourself some grace and enjoying and indulging in what the holiday foods have to offer, it’s still important that you focus on your health and take care of it. The way you treat your body has a direct reflection on the way it feels.
Here are some ways to make it easy to focus on your health during the holidays.
Stay hydrated
I know… you’re probably thinking “I hear that all the time, why does it matter so much?” Here’s what I’ll say – if you don’t stay hydrated (good rule of thumb: drink half your body weight in ounces) you will literally feel the effects. I’m serious, your mood will change and internally, water helps protect your organs so it’s definitely worth it. Not only that but if you are indulging during the holidays, drinking plenty of water will help keep your metabolism up!
Move your body
It’s really that simple. You have to continue to move your body. I’m all for doing whatever movement works best for you at that time. If you’re busy running errands today, a quick walk will suffice. A quick 20 min HIIT workout, awesome! Keeping your body moving is going to help you stay in the routine. Remember, you’re never going to regret a workout you did do.
Get enough protein
Protein does work for your body. From helping maintain a healthy weight to keeping you fuller longer, it does it all but only if you are getting adequate amounts. That looks a little bit different for everyone depending on your goals but ultimately most people (women especially) under eat protein. During this busy time of year, it’s very important to make sure you fuel your body.
Take time to rest
Don’t forget to take care of you. I know that seems silly to say but I’m sure you’ve had days where you’ve spent many hours cooking, and then hosted people, and put the kiddos to bed and didn’t have a chance to sit down. That’s not the worst thing but doing that too many times and your body will be feeling it. If you want to focus on your health, make sure that you take time to rest. Your body will thank you!
These 4 simple things are sure ways to stay focused on your health during the holiday season. From me to you, Happy Holidays!
