Have you ever been afraid that you might be successful at something? If you’re a business owner, have you ever been fearful of success in your business? What if my business grows at a fast rate and I can’t keep up with all the logistics and demands? Does this stop you from pursuing your dreams because it might be too overwhelming?
For some people, you might not want to start a business because you’re afraid to fail. And since failing is not a fun thing to go through, it makes sense to pause before you take a risk. Similarly, if you’re afraid of success, it can hold you back. Before taking the first step, you worry about how you would be able to keep up with the demand, take care of your employees, and make sure that this business doesn’t take over your life.
If you’re a working mother, you already have a 24-hour seven day a week job. It’s called motherhood. The responsibilities don’t stop outside your business. You have to think about each family member. How is everyone going to get fed, who is going to do the laundry, or who will take care of the kids after school?
Life isn’t always perfectly balanced. If you’re giving 100% in one area, you will probably give less in another. Life is give-and-take. The wonderful thing about a family is that members can share responsibilities. If your kids are old enough, have them help with chores like laundry and loading/unloading the dishwasher. Delegate by asking each family member to take one night of the week to make a simple dinner.
Be willing to be flexible. If it works best for you to work while everyone is asleep, wake up two hours earlier. If you are a night owl, work at the end of the evening. If you’re able to get out a few days a week during the afternoon, find a local coffee shop. Make the most of your time and plan wisely so that you can accomplish a lot during your work sessions. Everyone’s workflow looks different. Your work schedule and life schedule are different from another colleague who has a small business. You have a different set of responsibilities.
Remember that you are not alone as you start your business. Surround yourself with a great support team or encouragers who believe in you and are rooting for your success. Listen to loved ones and hear their wisdom and insight. You have gifts and abilities that make you a success. Don’t be afraid of it. With your boldness and effort, someone else will pay attention and see your bravery. They too will be able to step out and not be afraid to be a success.
