Health is different for all of us. We all define it differently. You can find “health” information at every corner of the internet. No matter where you look you’ll find multiple different plans and ideas on this.
Many of us start to think hard about these things when we have changes in our lives. Maybe we have a health scare, are starting a family, or are aging. All of these things are common reasons why someone might take a hard look at their health and where they want to be.
I had a very specific idea of what health meant to me. How I was going to attain it and what I wanted it to look like. It started when I had my first child. I knew I wanted to “do better” for him and our family and that meant I had to take care of my health.
Starting my journey, I remember feeling so defeated… One day I went out and I tried to run the track and after a minute had to stop. I got discouraged and thought “that’s it, I can’t do it. I will never get my health where I want it to be”.
So where do you start creating habits for your health?
No matter where you are currently in your health journey, these 4 things will undoubtedly change your health for the better.
- REST– Sleep is essential for your everyday functions. Lack of sleep disrupts your hormones causing you to retain weight and other unwanted symptoms while adequate sleep allows your brain to function to its potential leading to more creativity & better remembrance.
- Water intake– Drinking water is essential to your overall health. Water boosts your metabolism, regulates your body temperature, and it boosts your energy. Something that I have started doing and I share with my clients is drinking a glass of water each morning when you wake up. When we talk about mindful health habits–that is an easy one to implement.
- Increase whole foods & decrease processed foods– Listen, I know processed foods can be convenient and I’m not saying you can never eat them because that isn’t realistic BUT you can consume more whole foods. We get so much of our energy from the food we put in our body. Increasing the amount of whole foods you eat will give you more energy and sustain you during your days.
- Movement– Our bodies crave a lot of things and one of them is movement. Our bodies love it. Listen, you can do all the workouts in the world and if you are only getting a 1-2k steps in a day, you won’t see the changes you are hoping to see. Moving is essential and an easy thing to add into your day.
These 4 things aren’t hard, and you might be thinking there’s no way that just that will better your health but they will. Don’t overcomplicate when it comes to your health and health habits. The simpler, the better. Just remain consistent!
