5 Ways To Focus On Your Health While Traveling

I love vacation and travel! It’s such a great time to spend with family, enjoy the changes in routine, and let the mind rest from work obligations!

I used to not be intentional about my health when I traveled and honestly would come home feeling pretty crappy. Here’s the thing about feeling good about your health habits, you want to continue them even when you are traveling. Probably not perfectly but still practice them. 

Here are 5 ways that I focus on my health while on vacation that you can use to help with your travels the rest of the year!

  1. Move your body every day- Maybe you are someone who doesn’t like to workout on vacation, and that’s totally ok, but I encourage you to at least start your day with a walk. This is something you can do with the whole family!

If you like working out, then just continue with your normal workout routine! Maybe hit the hotel gym OR look up a HIIT workout. Again, this is something the whole family can join in on! This is going to make you feel good!

  1. Drink water + electrolytes- Especially if you are going to be spending a lot of time outside, you need to make sure you are staying hydrated! It’s so easy to get dehydrated when traveling and that’s going to make you feel bad. 

Drinking electrolytes has made a huge difference for me while traveling. If you’re sweating outside in the heat, electrolytes can help replenish your body. 

  1. Eat protein at each meal- Traveling can make it harder to reach your protein goal when you are out of your normal routine. Make sure to get 30-35g protein at each meal and you are in good shape. 

Add a protein heavy snack (or even better, have them on hand). You’ll feel a difference when you aren’t eating enough protein. 

  1. Schedule some time for yourself- I know you are traveling with your children or family and that might be hard, but taking 30 minutes a day where you are doing something for YOU is so important.

This doesn’t have to be a massage each day but even just going to grab your favorite iced coffee solo. 
REST and REFLECT- Allow your mind to slow down enough to rest and reflect. This is when some great conversations can happen. Rest & reflection really do so much good for our health.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t mean you can’t have fun or enjoy your favorite foods or cocktails! When you are mindful, you will feel your best!
