Your mindset is everything. Because of that, we sometimes need a mindset shift to get where we are trying to go.
Your mindset is so important! It helps us see personal growth and approach situations with more grace and understanding. Evaluating where your mindset stands and how to change it can be difficult.
Today I want to ask you 4 questions that will help you evaluate if there is an area of your life where you might need a mindset shift. This may be in your career, parenting, friendship, your health, or something else.
The first question is ‘Do you find yourself often stuck in a negative thought pattern around one area of your life?’
Negative thoughts can be so tricky. They can keep us stuck or fill us with self-doubt.
You’ve probably experienced this in some form, I know I have. The narrative I was writing in my head was that I wasn’t smart and I would never find something career wise that I love. The reality is that I wasn’t studying or doing things that actually interested me. I was just going through the motions which allowed self-doubt to get in.
Fast forward, I have found things I absolutely love. I wish I had understood the power of reframing my thoughts back then so I could see things from a different perspective.
The second question is ‘Are you setting limits on yourself based on past experiences?’
You have the opportunity to write a different narrative for the season you are in now. I’m not the same person that I was in college. Yes, the core of who I am and the things that make me Claudia are the same but there has been so much growth and experience. I have learned and grown in ways I’m not sure I would have believed 10-12 years ago.
You don’t have to put limits on yourself now because of how something looked 10 years ago. You can choose to do something different!
The third question is ‘Do you practice self-compassion and celebrate your successes big and small?’
We are so hard on ourselves, especially as women, giving little compassion or grace to ourselves. We have plenty for everyone else but when it comes to us personally we struggle with this.
So many times with this one, we struggle to show ourselves grace or compassion because we are only thinking of the things we aren’t doing. If you focus on the negative, you are going to only see the negative.
The next time you catch yourself putting more emphasis on what you didn’t do, I want you to tell yourself what you did choose to do. Over time you will see a change in your mindset, more grace for yourself, and the opportunity to celebrate the things you are doing well.
The last question is ‘are you using more “I have to” language than “I get to language”?’
This is huge in your mindset shift. The way you talk about the things you are doing every day will definitely impact the way you FEEL about the things you are doing every day.
Changing this language is a simple way to help change your mindset. Give this a try today and I’m sure you’ll see the difference.
