Traveling can be exciting but often throws off routines. This may make traveling while on your health journey feel daunting and a little overwhelming. The truth is, you don’t have to choose between having fun and feeling good – you can do both! And you should do both! I’m going to share with you 5 tips for feeling your best while traveling.
(1) Get movement in daily (without overcomplicating it!)
No gym? No problem! You don’t need a gym to get movement while on your vacation. Movement doesn’t have to be lifting weights or running on the treadmill. You can walk, stretch, do bodyweight workouts, or explore the area actively.
Focus on movement, not perfection, and remember, anything is better than nothing!
(2) Ditch the all-or-nothing mindset
One “off” meal or skipped workout doesn’t have to ruin everything. Remember, this meal or skipped workout doesn’t erase all the progress you’ve already made and it won’t ruin all the progress that is coming! Small, consistent choices add up, so do what you can to keep moving forward.
(3) Be mindful of alcohol intake
Oftentimes vacations come with more alcohol. Alcohol impacts sleep, digestion, and energy levels. You don’t have to eliminate alcohol altogether but if you’re not feeling your best while on vacation this is a good place to look.
Set realistic limits so you can enjoy yourself without feeling sluggish the next day. Again, this is about enjoying your vacation and feeling good!
(4) Prioritize high-protein meals
Protein keeps you full, stabilizes energy, and helps you avoid energy crashes. This doesn’t mean you can’t eat out at your favorite restaurants or enjoy some vacation foods. What is important is making sure you are getting enough. Simple ways to add protein include things like eggs, Greek yogurt, lean meats, and protein bars.
(5) Create a routine that travels with you
If your everyday habits feel impossible on vacation, they may not be sustainable. If that’s the case, you might want to take another look at what your habits are. Find a balance – whether it is morning journaling, stretching, or making protein a priority – so your lifestyle supports you everywhere!
Traveling should feel good while you’re there and when you get back. These tips should help you enjoy both!
