Making your health and fitness a priority is more than just working out and eating healthy.
“I” was my first priority when starting my journey to better health & fitness. At times, it felt selfish. Even now, I speak with so many people who say they can’t improve their health and fitness because it is selfish or feels so. This is a HUGE thing I see especially with moms. As a mom, we feel the constant need to show up for everyone, oftentimes neglecting ourselves.
When are we going to stop doing this to ourselves?
I don’t just do it for me. My health and fitness was for ME and now, I do it for my family. I do it to show my children how to take care of their bodies, the importance of being active, and how we fuel our bodies in a way that benefits us. This motivates & encourages me to continue going even on the days that feel hard.
When I think about prioritizing my health to help benefit my family these are a few of the things I incorporate:
- Make eating whole foods a priority
- Drink plenty of water
- Getting adequate sleep (8 hours)
- Strength training 5x week
- Limit screen time
- Daily self care
Looking back at when I started my journey, I felt overwhelming pressure to make a change but I was worried it wouldn’t make a difference. I know it’s working because I find my children making choices and acting in ways that reflect the changes I’ve made to better my health and fitness. It’s super encouraging and makes all the hard days worth it!
Think about this. How incredible would it be to have your children grow up having watched really good habits and not having to work as hard for them as you have?Imagine, your children grow up & they already have good relationships with food all because you were able to take the steps needed to show them by doing so yourself.
The small steps you take now could turn into huge benefits for your children & yourself later on. I know it’s hard. It’s hard to put you first. Do it for you & continue doing it for them!
