We all have a picture of what we want our morning routines to look like. There’s one thing I’ve learned since having kids and being in this season of life, the perfect morning routine isn’t necessarily the routine I see on social media or hear other people talk about.
Morning routines are important.
Why? Having a morning routine allows you to start your day from a place of intention of mindfulness.
I have talked a lot about setting intentions for yourself whether it’s your health, career, or something else. When we set an intention for the day we are choosing how we want to feel about something.
For instance, if I say “I want to feel peaceful in the morning.”. That is the intention. This is going to look different for all of us.
Being mindful about your day allows you to see things from a different lens. It reminds you of your values, what things need to be done for the day, how you will approach a conversation with a co-worker or client, and so on.
Now, let’s talk about your mindset around a morning routine.
What is your current mindset around morning routines? Do you feel like it’s a waste of time, helpful, important? Or maybe you’re like me and have put the pressure on yourself that a morning routine has to look a certain way for it to be beneficial. It can be hard to understand the benefits of a morning routine especially if you’ve tried one in the past and it didn’t go as you planned or expected.
You have to do what works for you! For me, I start my morning routine as soon as my kids leave for school. I get them up around 6:45 every morning and they get dressed and we go down for breakfast. Following that we brush our teeth and they are out the door. My husband takes them which is so great and they love it and that’s when my morning routine starts.
I usually grab my coffee and put on my under eye masks and go read for 20-30 minutes. From there I will think through what needs to be done for the day and then I’m headed to get ready and start my day. That’s it. It’s not crazy or full of a million things.
When I take time to start my day this way, my days are usually way more productive. I’m starting my day at that point from a place of peace. When I take time for myself and I’m intentional about that, I have better mental clarity and I’m more focused during the work day or with other things I need to get done.
I want you to look forward to your morning routine as well. Finding consistency might be a little uncomfortable at first and I challenge you to embrace that.
The best morning routine for me and you is the one that you enjoy doing, is attainable, and that you can be consistent in.
