PERFECTION – This has made my life hard at times. As women, we often put pressure on ourselves to make everything perfect.
Our home, perfect.
Relationships, perfect.
Children, perfect.
Image, perfect.
I don’t know about you but this stresses me out! But it took me a while to figure out exactly why I was stressed. I had to do some serious self reflecting to find that I was putting this pressure on myself.
To be honest, this is hurting you. But it’s not all your fault. We are pressured by ourselves but also by what we consume. Who we follow on social media, the kind of television we watch, those we surround ourselves with – it all impacts the pressure of perfection.
As moms, we already have put tremendous amounts of pressure on ourselves. Why add perfection on top of that? They go hand in hand.
When I find myself in the perfection game here’s what I do:
- Embrace imperfection. I take a step back and think about what’s most important to me and that’s spending time with my loved ones.
- Simplify & keep things simple. I find that when I have lots to do, and I want everything to be perfect, that I find myself extremely stressed.
Simply understanding and recognizing that you are chasing perfection will open you up to be able to practice embracing perfection & simplifying. These might seem like small tasks but I promise you that they make a huge difference in getting out of the perfection game.
Perfecton, while it seems nice, isn’t attainable. If this is what you are striving for, you’re putting unrealistic expectations on yourself. Continuing to strive for such will lead to burnout and potential other unwanted side effects.
Putting perfection aside will help you excel in your life. Lets normalize and embrace the imperfection that is life.
