Many women face struggles with body image, you’re not alone. Unfortunately we put a lot on ourselves when it comes to the way we look, what we should look like, and the stresses of societal images on our body. Not anymore. I’m going to encourage you and share practical insights so you can start transforming your relationship with your body.
The struggle isn’t just from within. There are so many societal and cultural pressures that shift the way we think about our bodies. It is so normal for you to feel fruatrated, ashamed, or unhappy with your body. BUT, those emotions aren’t you, they don’t define who you are.
We have to shift this perspective and that starts with being grateful for your body. Be grateful that you were able to get up today and move. Maybe your body grew and nurtured children, that’s something to be grateful for. Your body is incredible no matter where it’s at right now. Instead of focusing on “fixing” it, focus on nurturing and supporting it.
Here’s how you are going to do that:
- Step 1: Practice self-compasion – speaking to yourself kindly goes such a long way
- Step 2: Set boundarings with media that promote harmful beauty standards – if you find yourself feeling down when you see a specific influencer, unfollow. If you don’t like the things you say about yourself when you’re watching a tv show, pick a new one.
- Step 3: Engage in activities that make you feel strong and joyful – this could be anything from walking to dancing to yoga, whatever makes you feel good
- Step 4: Celebrate small wins and progress, not just physical changes but emotional shifts too – if you woke up today and looked in the mirror proud, celebrate!
I know that you might feel frustrated with your body right now. Frustration is natural but doesn’t have to be permanent.
Take one small step toward a healthier relationship with your body. I promise you won’t regret it!
