Back To School: My Encouragement To You

Back to school season has officially started at the McDivitt house. In some ways, I feel like summer flew by and in other ways, it went by slowly. I’m sure a lot of moms can resonate with that! So many memories and fun moments as a family but I’m excited for some routine! I think most of us would say we thrive on a little bit of routine.

I know that back to school is exciting but I know there is a transition period. For all of us! I want to encourage you as we are all transitioning back to fall schedules. I want to talk about how to approach this transition season with confidence, maintain healthy routines, and identify any negative thoughts.

How do we build confidence in our kids going back to school?

One of the biggest ways that has helped our family is prepping things on the front end.

Another way we can build confidence in our kids before they leave for school is by asking them intentional questions about their day. 

  • What are they looking forward to?
  • Are they feeling nervous about anything?
  • How can they be a good friend at school today?

I love hearing what is on their mind before they leave the house. It’s also a great way to follow up with them after school too. I’ve seen over and over how building confidence in my kids comes from all those small moments.

The second thing I want to encourage you to do in this back to school season is maintain your healthy routines.

You can’t make changes to the past so let’s look forward to fishing this year strong with the health habits that make you feel your best. The first thing I always encourage my clients to focus on is their nutrition. Being able to focus back on your nutrition will help you get back into your health routines. 

I encourage you to look at your week and think through some simple meals to get you back on track. If you need some more simple meals make sure you are following me over on IG.

Two other things that you can do to help you get back on track is to establish your workout routine. Whether that is in the morning, afternoon or evening.

I know it can be hard getting back in the swing of things but take it one day at a time!

The last thing I want to encourage you to do is reframe any negative thoughts you are having about transitioning back into the school year.

I know that it’s easy to focus on things we don’t feel like we are doing well or things we want to change but I encourage you to point out the things that you are doing well. Be intentional about the language you are using.

Reframing your thoughts is a powerful technique for managing negative thinking. It involves recognizing negative or unhelpful thoughts and consciously transforming them into more positive or constructive ones. 

Let’s chat about gratitude. We have talked about gratitude a lot on this podcast because it’s important. Practicing gratitude is a simple yet effective way to combat negative thoughts. By intentionally focusing on the positive aspects of your life, you can shift your mindset from what is lacking to what is abundant.

Start by setting aside a few minutes each day to reflect on and write do

wn things you are grateful for, whether it’s the support of loved ones, a beautiful sunrise, or a small achievement.
