Have you ever listened to someone’s story and thought “If she can do it, so can I”. You know the ones that inspire you to take action and try something new or step out of your comfort zone and do something different? Then you’re going to love this!

I asked my friend, Lauren Cunningham – host of So Can I Podcast, to share her story with us. She is one of those who makes me think “If she can do it, so can I”. Lauren hopes to inspire, motivate, and encourage women to step out in faith, follow the dreams that have always been in their hearts, and have fun while doing it.

First, let’s get to know Lauren.

Lauren is from Athens, TN. She has a social media and marketing business where she helps other female founded brands strategize & execute their ideas. She has a podcast – So Can I, where she interviews female founders about how they started their businesses. Lauren loves football, reading, traveling, cooking, and needlepointing.

How did Lauren get started in the business space?

Lauren majored in accounting, but after graduation realized that she didn’t love it. She started attending health coaching school for integrative nutrition and loved it! Initially, she started a business where she was developing recipes for fitness apps. While doing this she got the opportunity to run a med spa’s social media account, and realized she had a lot of experience taking photos and videos for social media because of the recipe business. So, she jumped at the opportunity to do something different. 

In the first years, developing recipes made her lonely. She didn’t get a lot of interaction with other people and missed having coworkers. She began to seek out relationships in the online space, because she knew there were so many other female business owners she could talk to. That’s what inspired her to start her podcast!

What role does community place in a woman’s success?

Lauren believes that being surrounded by people who support & understand what you are facing daily is so important. Having other women to talk to and be a sounding board is key when you are starting a business. We can’t do it alone!

The future of women in business is only getting bigger, which is so exciting. Lauren sees many more collaborations between women in business in teh future. 

The advice she would give to others, as cheesy as it sounds, is just do it. Take calculated risks & go for it.
