The holiday hustle is REAL! With only 3 weeks til Christmas, we are fully in the throes of gift wrapping, shopping, holiday parties, Christmas lights, cookie decorating, and all the other things, you’ve probably experienced burnout.
But not just any burnout, holiday burnout! The holiday hustle is in full swing and it’s really easy to fall into a state of burnout. For some reason – we think that we have to avoid our normal routines during the holiday. It’s like the holidays are here so I’m not going to do all the things I usually do.
If you ask me, I would say that it’s more important than ever to stay in our routine as much as possible during the holidays.
There are 4 ways to avoid burnout during the holidays. I’ve been doing these things and it has been a game changer for me during the craziness of the holidays.
Maintaining your exercise routine
If you have one in place, I encourage you to keep doing that. Exercising and taking time to move your body is going to be helpful for you this time of year. Take 30 minutes each day to allow yourself to do that.
That might be riding your bike, going for a walk, or doing a strength workout but having that time for you will benefit everyone in the long run.
Be mindful of your nutrition
You’re probably wondering – how does nutrition tie into burnout? Your nutrition is where you get your energy! It’s from the foods you are consuming. With the season comes lots of holiday parties and treat/dessert dishes. What if you brought something macro friendly? Then you’ll be confident that you’ll also have food to fuel your body and not just sugar.
You don’t want the only thing you are consuming to be desserts, although I don’t think you should eliminate them completely. Just be mindful of giving your body nutrients. This will help you not feel burnt out and also avoid the crash from tons of sugar.
Protect your sleep schedule
New moms are probably thinking I’m crazy right now because what is a sleep schedule when you aren’t getting any sleep? I get it! This can be super hard!
Interrupted sleep can lead us to feel pretty bad throughout the day and to feel burnout quickly. I know some things are completely out of our control but even amid those things, find time to rest!
Managing your stress
The holidays are stressful, how is this even possible? The holidays are so special but they can bring about feelings of stress.
How can we manage that? The two things I already mentioned, giving your body time to move and fueling your body.
I know that you want to say yes to everything during this time of year. As mothers, we don’t want to miss out or have our children miss out.
Above everything – the people closest to you want to be as healthy as you can this season and that means avoiding burnout!
