Secrets To Sustaining Consistent Habits

This phase of life has been my favorite thus far but also super busy. Staying consistent with your habits can be tricky when you’re busy. There are some secrets I’ve learned along the way to make sure you are sustaining consistent habits in whatever you want to achieve. 

The thing that becomes increasingly hard about being consistent is that we live in an instant gratification world. Because of this, when we want something, we expect it to happen now. 

Consistently takes time. It doesn’t come easy, takes a lot of work, and certainly doesn’t happen overnight.

A lot of times we set out for a goal and we are motivated and that keeps us going until something happens… and just like that, we stop!

Why does this happen? Motivation only lasts for so long… when motivation withers away you have to have consistency to fall back on. 

When life throws you the inevitable curveballs, how can you make sure that you are continuing to build consistent habits into your day?

  1. Find something sustainable – remember, if it requires you to eliminate whole food groups or never have a dessert or your favorite cocktail, it isn’t sustainable and definitely won’t work for you long term therefore you won’t be able to be consistent.
  2. Seek extra accountability – someone to guide you in working towards your goals – I HIGHLY recommend a coach that has a group. This will allow you to work with other individuals just like you with similar goals. You’ll feel support and accountability. 
  3. Be realistic with clear goals – a big goal with smaller goals leading up to it is the best way to do this. If your goal is unclear or seems out of reach you are less likely to be consistent. 

You can use these 3 tips for any habits you want to create. But just remember, that you don’t need to start 10 habits at once. Habits build on each other and once you start, you’ll find each habit becomes easier and easier to make. Not only that but your confidence will continue to grow as your habits do!
